The Morrison Government will invest $150 million in the next generation of Army’s geospatial support capability. Forming part of the LAND 1771 Tranche 1 project, land forces will be able to use advanced imagery to obtain vital terrain and navigation data. This will result in Army commanders making faster decisions while on the battlefield. The Morrison Government will boost Army’s weapon systems capability with the purchase of an additional 8,500 world-class, Australian made Enhanced F88 (EF88) weapon systems. This will supplement the 30,000 weapons that Thales Australia will deliver to Defence.  Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said this additional acquisition of rifles will not only improve the overall capability of the Australian Defence Force, but will also provide a welcome boost to the workforce in regional Australia.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) will soon be equipped with new cutting-edge, night-fighting capability through a $173 million investment by the Morrison Government. More than 5,500 cutting-edge helmet-mounted fused night vision systems will be delivered to the ADF, combining image intensification (night vision) with thermal imaging to improve visibility and target detection in low or no light situations. Missions Systems Australia has been awarded the contract to deliver the capability which is expected to be rolled out by 2023.

The Morrison Government will invest around $11 million to acquire an advanced anti submarine warfare capability for Defence.Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said the new AUV62-AT, Intermediate Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Target will enhance Australia’s warfighting capabilities.“This advanced technology training target will simulate submarines and torpedos, providing highly realistic live training scenarios for submariners, aviators and surface vessel combat teams,” Minister Reynolds said.

To enhance the performance of Australia’s Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN), the Morrison Government has awarded BAE Systems Australia and CryoClock Pty Ltd a $4.8 million contract to develop ultra-high-precision Sapphire Clock technology. Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price has today unveiled new plans to cut red tape with the release of the Terms of Reference for a comprehensive review of Defence procurement. The review into the Australian Standard for Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON) and Defence procurement will seek to strengthen the way Defence does business with defence industry and ensure it has a fit-for-purpose procurement system in place. Minister Price said the review was timely as the Morrison Government continued to roll out $270 billion in Defence capabilities over the next decade.

The Morrison Government is planning to invest $244 million in a major upgrade of a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) airbase near Derby in Western Australia that will support 250 jobs and provide a shot in the arm for the local economy. RAAF Base Curtin forms a key part of the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) network of northern airbases and plays a vital role in supporting the training and operations of the ADF in WA’s North-West and the Indian Ocean.
