The Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today announced that Australian industry has been collectively awarded over $1 billion in production for the F-35 program. The strength of Australia’s defence industry has made it a significant and crucial contributor to the program which will support up to 5000 Australian jobs by 2023. “More than 50 Australian companies directly shared in the production contracts to date, with many more indirectly benefiting through supply chain work,” Minister Pyne said.

Australian industry showcased to the world through online portal Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, congratulated BAE Systems Australia (BAES Australia) on its innovative approach to providing in-depth information about the Joint Strike Fighter in Australia and Pacific region. BAES Australia will promote Australian industry to the world through the online information portal, ‘Flight Path’, aiming to demonstrate the growing breadth of Australian defence industry capability.

Sydney headquartered company Hawker Pacific has highlighted the export potential of Australia’s defence industry, with the delivery of the final of four modified King Air 350 aircraft to the Royal New Zealand Air Force.Minister for Defence Industry, Melissa Price said it was great to see another Australian company achieving export success.“This is a significant defence export by a local company, demonstrating the capability of Australia’s defence industry as a global exporter,” Minister Price said.

Australian Industry to benefit from Replacement Aviation Refuelling Vehicles The Minister for Defence Industry, The Hon Christopher Pyne MP and the Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne today announced that the Turnbull Government is enhancing the capability of the Australian Defence Force to support its vital air assets through the approval to purchase a new fleet of petrol tankers and refuelling vehicles.

Sydney-based CAE Australia has been awarded a $26 million contract to upgrade an aircraft simulator and other training systems as part of the C-130J Block Upgrade Program at RAAF Base Richmond, New South Wales.Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Melissa Price MP, said Defence’s partnership with CAE Australia would deliver game-changing capability for the Air Force.“This will equip Defence with a state-of-the-art C-130J aircraft simulator so that our Air Force can access the highest quality of training available,” Minister Price said.

Australian businesses and industry have the opportunity to participate in the next generation of contracts to deliver base services around Australia and support Defence’s key capabilities. It follows the release of the Request for Proposal (RFP) for a fourth generation of contracts.

Hundreds of Australian jobs will be created to sustain and support the Australian Army’s future helicopter fleet, as part of a $830 million investment in local industry. Lockheed Martin Australia has been awarded a $340 million integrated support contract for Australia’s Black Hawk helicopters.

  Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today announced Defence had signed a contract worth $37.5 million with Lockheed Martin Australia to provide portable facilities which will house top secret systems and support staff for Air Force operations deployed overseas, primarily for the new Joint Strike Fighters. Minister Pyne said this contract would create an additional 35 jobs spread across Newcastle and Adelaide.

Joint media release The Hon Melissa Price MP, Minister for Defence Industry   The Government’s Hunter Class Frigate Program continues to deliver opportunities for Australian workers with the signing of a steel contract worth around $2.5 million. Australian company BlueScope Steel AIS has signed a contract with ASC Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of BAE Systems Australia, to deliver more than 1500 tonnes of steel plate which will be used to construct five ship blocks in the prototyping phase of the program.

Mr Andrew Seaton has been reappointed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Australian Naval Infrastructure Pty Ltd (ANI) for a five-year term. Mr Seaton has been ANI’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer since 2020. During this period, he has led the organisation through the planning and construction of infrastructure in support of key naval shipbuilding projects.

Joint Media Release Assistant Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon David Fawcett The Royal Australian Navy Landing Helicopter Dock, HMAS Adelaide, and Armidale Class Patrol Boats, HMA Ships Larrakia and Glenelg, will start arriving in Port Moresby from this weekend to support Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) security agencies to deliver a safe and secure APEC.

The Royal Australian Navy and the Indian Navy demonstrated their interoperability during a recent passage exercise in the Northeast Indian Ocean.HMAS Hobart sailed in company with INS Sahyadri and Karmuk, highlighting the close working relationship between the Royal Australian Navy and the Indian Navy.Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC, said the successful exercise with India reflects the strength of the countries’ relationship as Comprehensive Strategic Partners.

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) replenishment ship HMAS Sirius has arrived in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, as part of Navy’s second East Asia Deployment for 2019. Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said the visit is representative of Defence’s strong and deepening ties with Vietnam. “Our close cooperation in peacekeeping, maritime security and counter-terrorism is underpinned by our shared commitment to a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific,” Minister Reynolds said.

Construction has commenced on a National Memorial in Canberra to honour Australia’s 90,000 peacekeepers, Minister for Defence Senator the Hon Marise Payne and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel the Hon Dan Tehan MP announced today. Minister Payne said the Federal Government has contributed more than $2 million towards construction of the first stage of the memorial on ANZAC Parade in Canberra.

Minister for Defence Industry the Hon Christopher Pyne MP; today announced Australian satellites were on the successful launch of a re-supply mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Biarri Point is a satellite developed by the United States, which as part of its payload has GPS technology developed by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney in partnership with Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group. Minister Pyne said the research and development program will help support industry jobs around the nation and in universities.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today congratulated APV Safety Products on being awarded a contract to supply seat belt harnesses for the US Marine Corps. Minister Pyne said the contract to supply 1,000 seat belt harnesses to ArmorWorks Enterprises, Inc. built on APV’s existing success in the North American market. “APV’s Australian-designed and manufactured harnesses integrate into blast-absorbing seating to offer the highest levels of survivability and safety,” Minister Pyne said.

Australian company Thomas Global has secured a $15 million contract with Rheinmetall as part of a major deal to deliver a new generation of combat vehicles for Australia. Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Melissa Price MP, announced the signing at the Defence and Security Equipment (DSEI) International tradeshow in London. Minister Price said the deal would generate 20 more jobs for Western Sydney and demonstrated how local businesses were benefiting from major Defence contracts.

The Morrison Government’s continued support for Australia’s defence industry has been underlined by the awarding of $837,000 in grants to six Australian small businesses to boost their competitiveness on the world stage. Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price today announced that Laserdyne, Heat Treatment, Acacia Systems, Intellidesign, UNEEK and SMETEC Services would each receive funding to invest in building their defence export capabilities.

In another sign of success for Australia’s Defence industry, Bisalloy today announced its best year of defence exports in over a decade.   With a significant increase of 56 percent in sales compared to last year, Bisalloy also achieved a major milestone with sales of defence grade steel at a level not seen in over ten years.
