The Department of Defence today launched an individual career coaching service for Australian Defence Force (ADF) members leaving the military.
Minister for Defence Personnel Dan Tehan said following a successful pilot in Townsville, Holsworthy and Adelaide the coaching service would now be available nationally.
“The Government recognises that leaving the military can be a significant life changing event which requires accessible and tailored support,” Mr Tehan said.
The service will provide ADF members with professional career coaching before leaving the military and will be available to them for 12 months after separation,” Mr Tehan said.
Mr Tehan said the new service forms part of the Government’s commitment to improving the transition experience; with a focus on preparing members for separation from service and improving their chances of finding meaningful employment.
“ADF Transition Officers will work with separating members to develop a career plan based on their unique skills, interests and career aspirations, said Mr Tehan.
“The service will support around 5,500 ADF members, and their families, who transition each year through the ADF Transition Centres across Australia.
“Members will also receive an individual transition action plan so their administrative requirements are met and they can leave the military with all of their important documentation, such as service and medical records.”
In addition, a new ADF Member and Family Transition Guide – a Practical Manual to Transitioning, has been developed to further support ADF members and their families. The guide outlines the Defence transition experience to ensure ADF members and their families are more informed, organised and confident as they enter civilian life.
