Australians can be proud of the significant contribution the ADF has made over many years to combat the Taliban and make Afghanistan a safer place for its people and the rest of the world.

It has long been acknowledged that Special Operations personnel operated in a complex, chaotic and very dangerous environment to defend our freedoms.

The Government takes all allegations about Australian Forces seriously.

As Australians would expect, these allegations must be – and are being – thoroughly examined, independently from the chain of command.

The IGADF’s Afghanistan Inquiry commenced in May 2016 at the request of the Chief of Army and the direction of the Chief of the Defence Force.

The government will appropriately respond to any recommendations made by the Inquiry.

In order to protect the integrity and independence of the Inquiry, and the reputations of individuals who might otherwise be unfairly affected, it is not appropriate to comment further.
