Our deployed forces will receive a major communications boost after Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP and Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, today announced a $223 million contract with Northrop Grumman Australia for the acquisition, construction and support of a new satellite ground station.  Minister Pyne said the satellite ground station will be built at Kapooka in New South Wales along with an integrated network management system.

The Albanese Labor Government is delivering cost of living relief for more Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and veterans with key changes passed today in the Federal Parliament to help them buy their own home. The Albanese Government is investing $13 million in solar energy generation and battery storage systems at five Defence sites across the Northern Territory, as part of the nationwide Defence Renewable Energy and Energy Security Program. Under this investment, large-scale renewable energy projects will be installed at RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal, Robertson and Larrakeyah Barracks and Harts Range.

The Morrison Government is boosting the Northern Territory’s economy with a $282 million injection across two Defence projects that will create local jobs and opportunities for businesses across the Territory. The Morrison Government will establish a Regional Maintenance Centre in Darwin to support our national naval shipbuilding enterprise, with a tender for a new Industry Partner to head up the centre to be advertised in coming weeks. The Morrison Government is delivering on our commitment to expand Western Australia’s diesel storage capacity. Through the Boosting Australia’s Diesel Storage Program, the Government is backing ten projects across Australia that will support around 1,000 new jobs and a 40 per cent increase in Australia’s diesel stockholdings.  This includes a $25 million investment in Coogee Chemicals strategic storage project at Kwinana where construction on new diesel storage tanks is now underway.

The Australian Army has commenced training on the new Boxer 8x8 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV) which are being delivered under the Morrison Government’s LAND 400 Phase 2 program. The 211 new Boxer 8x8 CRVs will replace Army’s Australian Light Armoured Vehicles, delivering Army a new, cutting edge capability. The Morrison Government has unveiled three defence capability focus areas critical to Australia’s national security that will guide the Government’s investment in the innovative ideas of Australian businesses. The eighth rotation of Task Group Taji were officially farewelled today, at a parade at Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane, in front of a crowd of family and friends.  The rotation, made up of approximately 300 Brisbane-based Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel, will help train the Iraqi Security Forces in their efforts to defeat Daesh. Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today announced another Australian export success with Brisbane firm, Ferra Engineering signing a contract with Thales Germany, creating up to 25 Australian jobs. Friends and family of the nearly 300 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel about to deploy to Iraq on Operation OKRA said their goodbyes during a parade at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane today. The ADF contingent, bound for the Taji Military Complex 20km north of Baghdad, consists primarily of soldiers from Brisbane’s 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) and will form the ninth rotation of Task Group Taji.
