Defence has partnered with CAE to provide comprehensive support and training for the Royal Australian Air force’s (RAAF) Hawk MK127 training system. Valued at approximately AU$14.5m over a 4.5 year period, the contract with CAE will see 9 new jobs created, 3 at RAAF Base Pearce and 6 at RAAF Base Williamtown. Defence’s maintenance contract with Boeing Defence Australia for the F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet aircraft fleet has been extended to include ongoing engineering, logistics and maintenance sustainment support. Valued at approximately $145 million, this expanded commercial arrangement will see continued support for Australia’s current fleet of 71 Classic Hornets out until December 2021, with options to extend further if required. Minster Pyne said this extension of the contract will help sustain dozens of jobs in the Hunter Region.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today congratulated world leading Australian company CEA Technologies for winning a contract to upgrade the capabilities of the Royal Australian Navy’s Anzac class frigates. Minister Pyne visited CEA Technologies today at PACIFIC 2017 and said the contract valued at $148 million would see the production of new air search radar, known as the CEAFAR2-L, for the Anzac class frigates. The contract is part of the larger program that will modify the ships and integrate the radars that has a total value of over $400 million.

The Morrison Government has signed a $158 million contract with Australian infrastructure services giant Ventia, creating 23 new jobs across the country and supporting the continuing employment of another 65 Australian workers.Ventia, which has partnered with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) for more than 30 years, will upgrade the current fleet of ADF engineering vehicles, providing the ADF with a further 291 vehicles.These will include cranes, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, telehandlers, forklifts, graders and rollers.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today announced the winners of the Counter Improvised Threats Grand Challenge, an initiative of Defence’s Next Generation Technologies Fund (Next Gen Tech Fund). Minister Pyne said $19 million had been awarded to universities and companies in South Australia ($5.5 million), Victoria ($4.5 million), Queensland ($3.9 million), Western Australia ($2.9 million) and NSW ($2.4 million). “Over 200 submissions were received and 40 proposals were shortlisted before the final winners were selected,” he said.

A $213 million upgrade to the Navy’s Garden Island facility in Sydney will improve Defence operations, enhance national security and create hundreds of jobs. The wharf upgrade project has been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works today with work expected to begin in mid-2017, subject to approval. The Cruiser Wharf and Oil Wharf will be demolished and a new wharf with different alignment will be constructed; an adjoining wharf will be extended to reduce the new wharf’s protrusion into Sydney Harbour.

Minister for Defence Personnel Dan Tehan today announced a $23 million infrastructure project to benefit Queensland, New South Wales and Northern Territory had been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works. The Morrison Government has awarded a Victorian company a $3 million contract to develop cutting-edge technology that could improve the protective equipment used by the Australian Defence Force. DMTC Limited will use its funding, awarded through the Defence Innovation Hub, to explore the application of the ground-breaking textile technology within the ADF. The University of Tasmania will partner with US universities to conduct research to help improve Australia’s naval capability. The Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon. Joint media release  The Hon Bert van Manen MP Member for Forde  A Queensland-based bulk liquid storage manufacturer has signed a $30 million contract with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles to deliver fuel and water modules that will be fitted to Defence’s fleet of logistics trucks. The $35 billion Future Frigate project reached a significant milestone today with the release of the Request for Tender (RFT) to the three shortlisted designers; BAE, Fincantieri and Navantia. Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today announced New South Wales-based company RingIR Pty Ltd, would receive $4.6 million to develop and demonstrate an innovative technology to enhance Defence capability.
