New Defence Training Hub set to strengthen Pacific Security Cooperation

The Albanese Government has launched a new online platform today to strengthen defence cooperation, build capability and make training opportunities more accessible for the Pacific’s defence and security personnel.

Developed through discussions at the previous South Pacific Defence Ministers' Meeting (SPDMM) in partnership with Pacific nations, the Defence Training Hub – Pacific brings together training opportunities offered by Australia, Pacific nations and partners from the Pacific Quadrilateral Defence Coordinating Group into a single, accessible platform. 

The hub aims to help personnel plan their career pathways and includes more than 150 training modules covering maritime security, land-based security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. 

The Learning Pathways tool helps personnel understand the training and experience needed to progress through different roles. The tool provides a guide from entry-level through to specialist and leadership positions, giving Pacific personnel greater visibility of and ownership over their professional development.

Key Pacific security priorities are at the core of the Defence Training Hub – Pacific as a SPDMM initiative and will strengthen regional cooperation, improve interoperability and help build the capabilities needed to address shared security challenges.

As the platform grows, it will also support information sharing on training activities, regional exercises and defence cooperation initiatives, further strengthening connections between defence and security organisations across the Pacific.
