Minister Andrews has thanked the Prime Minister for his appointment to the Defence portfolio today.

“I’m honoured and thrilled to be given this opportunity and appreciate the Prime Minister’s confidence in appointing me to this very important role.” Mr Andrews said.

“I am determined to work hard in the interests of all Australians to make our country safer and more secure.

“I’m proud of the role I’ve played in the Social Services portfolio in helping to make Australia’s safety net more sustainable for those who need it most.

“Minister Morrison will continue the good work that has been achieved and I am confident he will excel in this portfolio as he did in Immigration.”
