SUBJECTS: Annual Cyber Threat Report.
RICHARD MARLES, DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER: So we're saying the cyber threat to our country increase, there’s a 23 per cent increase in the number of reports of cybercrimes and for every one of those reports, there is a 14 per cent increase in the cost of them. So more reports of cyber incidents and those incidents are costing more. In addition to that, we're seeing a much greater interest on the part of the state actors in Australia's critical infrastructure, which is why we're investing so heavily in the Australian Signals Directorate, a $10 billion dollar investment over 10 years, which really doubles the size of ASD to make sure that we've got our cyber defences in place in a time where the cyber threat is growing.
