The Australian Government is commited to ensuring that Australian Defence Force members continue to receive top quality and timely health care under Defence’s contract with Medibank Health Solutions.
Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Warren Snowdon said the Opposition’s irresponsible comments regarding this contract are creating confusion among ADF members and their families.
“Under this contract there will be no reduction in health care entitlements to ADF members. Our servicemen and women will continue to receive the highest quality of health care services,” Mr Snowdon said.
Importantly, Defence’s contract with Medibank Health Solutions contains stronger monitoring and quality assurance measures than under previous health commercial arrangements. The contract includes detailed performance measures and reporting requirements related to delivery of health care services and clinical governance.
Defence retains full responsibility for, and oversight of the health care services provided – not Medibank Health Solutions.
Medibank has responsibility for securing the specialists required to meet the terms of the contract with Defence. It is not appropriate for other parties to become involved in those negotiations.
“Senator Johnston’s irresponsible comments have the potential to undermine commercial negotiations between Medibank and health providers,” Mr Snowdon said.
