The Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP, has encouraged Defence families throughout Australia to get involved in National Families Week 2011.
“National Families Week is a celebration of families and their importance to the community. This year the national theme of Sticking together: families in good and tough times.”
“In Defence in particular, there is a great appreciation for how important families are in supporting Australian Defence Force members,” Mr Snowdon said.
“The Australian Government is firmly committed to supporting our Defence families. We recognise that the strength of the Defence force is in the family and the strength of the family is in the community,” said Mr Snowdon.
Mr Snowdon said the Australian Defence Force is holding events for Defence families across Australia from 15-21 May.
“The Defence Community Organisation is working in partnership with commanders and senior officers from local Defence units, to host events for Defence families around the country this week.
“Defence families are strong and self-reliant and they make a great contribution to the Australian community. National Families Week is a great opportunity for us to show just how important they are, and how much we appreciate them.”
