Minister for Defence Science and Personnel Warren Snowdon and Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today visited Robertson Barracks in Darwin to meet soldiers preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.
“More than 3,000 members of the Australian Defence Force are currently serving overseas," Mr Snowdon said.
"It is a privilege to be here today to meet the people working hard to keep Australia safe."
“Over the coming weeks elements of 5RAR are deploying to operations in Afghanistan," Mr Clare said.
"They are doing tough and important work -- taking over from 6RAR training and mentoring the Afghan National Army as part of the International Security Assistance Force."
While at Robertson Barracks Mr Clare and Mr Snowdon also inspected equipment being issued to soldiers deploying overseas.
The Ministers also visited HMAS Coonwarra where they inspected Armidale Class patrol boat HMAS Glenelg.
They were briefed on the Australian Defence Force’s Border Protection work through Operation RESOLUTE by senior Naval personnel.
