The Hon. Jason Clare MP
Minister for Defence Materiel.
Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare joined the Member for Blair Shayne Neumann to inspect the new F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter aircraft based at RAAF base Amberley.
“The Super Hornet fighter jets are Australia’s first new combat aircraft in 25 years. Based here at Amberley, they are a leap forward in capability for the Royal Australian Air Force,” Mr Clare said.
“We have already received the first 11 new aircraft. Three more Super Hornet’s are due to arrive here in November and ten more are due to be delivered next year. All will be based here at Amberley.”
Wing Commander Murray Jones briefed the Minister and Shayne Neumann on the success of the project to date and the plan to decommission the F-111 strike aircraft in December.
“As soon as the ministry was announced I got on the phone and invited the new Minister to come up here to Amberley to inspect the new Super Hornet fighter jets,” Mr Neumann said.
“Within two weeks he was here, to see the good work being done to deliver the Super Hornet project here at the Amberley base.
“Over the next few years the Aerospace and Defence Support Centre at Amberley will create hundreds of jobs in the area adjacent to the Amberley base. This is great news for the whole Ipswich community.”
