The Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today opened a new secure storage facility at the Thales Soldier Systems Development and Support centre in Lithgow, NSW.
“The opening today of this facility marks another chapter in Lithgow’s proud history supporting the Australian Defence Force,” Mr Clare said.
“For almost a century Lithgow has supplied high quality weapons for Australian soldiers, and that work continues today.”
Since 1912 the Lithgow factory has produced over one million weapons including the Lee Enfield .303, BREN machine gun, Vickers machine gun, L1A1 Self Loading Rifle, L2A1 Heavy Barreled version and the Austeyr F88.
Mr Clare thanked the workforce at Lithgow for their ongoing work to support the men and women of the Australian Defence Force
