TODAY marks 25 days until the fourth Invictus Games kicks off in Sydney, bringing together 500 serving and former serving Defence personnel from 18 nations who have been wounded, injured or become ill during their military service.
Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said he is delighted to have the Games in Australia.
“I encourage all Australians to get behind our competitors as they demonstrate their unconquerable spirit on the world stage,” Mr Chester said.
To mark the 25 day milestone, uniform designs for the Games volunteers have been revealed.
“The uniforms will be worn by the 1,000-strong volunteer work force who will ensure all our guests have a memorable and enjoyable experience when they visit Sydney in October,” said Mr Chester.
“The designs feature dots which suggest a series of connections as the organisation, competitors, family and friends, partners, sponsors and community join together and embrace the spirit of Invictus Games Sydney 2018.”
Each uniform incorporates a message of thanks from His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia and Invictus Games Sydney 2018 Ambassador.
The Australian Defence Force and the Returned and Services League are supporting a combined team of 72 competitors who will compete in a range of both individual and team sports in this year’s Games, held from 20-27 October.
As part of the Australian Government contribution, Defence is also providing ceremonial and security support and general assistance to the Australian Invictus Games team.
“The soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen of the Joint Task Force supporting the Games are proud to support wounded, injured and ill veterans from around the world at this inspirational event,” Mr Chester said.
With only 25 days to go until the Opening Ceremony, and 75 per cent of tickets already sold, the public are being urged to get in quick not to miss out.
