Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Senator David Feeney has congratulated 11 employers for their support of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Reserves at an event organised by the Victoria Defence Reserves Support Council (DRSC) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to recognise employers who have been particularly supportive of their Reservist employees.
One of the employers awarded – Sinclair Knight Merz, an engineering, sciences and project delivery firm – was nominated independantly three times by three different Reservists.
Victoria Police also had two supervisors nominated for their ongoing support.
Senator Feeney offered his congratulations to all the award recipients.
“Our Reserve forces make a substantial contribution to Defence capability. This is particularly important with the high tempo of operations,” Senator Feeney said.
“Without the continued support of these employers it would not be possible for Reservists to successfully coordinate their civilian and service roles.
“Employers who support their Reservist employees are not only helping a member of their team, they are supporting the ADF.
“Such employers gain the appreciation of their staff and the Defence Force, they also gain access to an extraordinary array of experience and training. Employers of Reservists gain a confident, reliable and proven team member,” Senator Feeney said.
