Cairns-based Passions of Paradise has been named one of Australia’s most supportive employers of part time Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.
Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Senator David Feeney presented the National Employer Support Awards in a ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
“Employers who support ADF Reserves successfully manage a highly skilled and disciplined workforce for the benefit of their employees, the company and the Australian community,” Senator Feeney said.
“Companies like Passions of Paradise build on the skills of their employees, create strong community and business partnerships, and also support the security of our nation.”
A reef-cruise company, Passions of Paradise took out the Small Business category in the National Awards, sponsored by the Defence Reserves Support Council (DRSC).
Managing Director Alan Wallish said receiving the award was very humbling.
“Our Reservist employee Army Private Scott Garden is responsible for the logistics and planning involved in taking more than 25 000 people annually to the Great Barrier Reef,” Mr Wallish said.
“We have always supported Scott and, through his activities as a Reservist, our business has become something of an advocate for the Reserves.
“As a small company we get great value from Scott being a Reservist. After he’s been on training or deployment he brings back great skills and enthusiasm that rubs off on the rest of our staff.
“There is great synchronicity in employing and supporting the Reserves. Passions of Paradise also offers discounts on reef trips to ADF members,” Mr Wallish said.
