Tonight, four outstanding employers were recognised for their support of Australian Defence Force (ADF) Reservists by the Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney.
Senator Feeney presented awards to South Australia Police, Xstrata Copper, Sustainability Pty Ltd and Passions of Paradise at the National Employer Support Awards ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
“Strong national security is the result of the combined efforts of our Defence Force, security and diplomatic agencies, citizens and employers. Tonight, we recognise those employers who have made a direct contribution to national security by supporting part time members of the ADF,” Senator Feeney said.
Xstrata Copper’s Mt Isa mine in Queensland won the Large Business Category. Infrastructure Manager Matt O’Neill said the company was delighted to be recognised with a national award.
“Xstrata’s values are very similar to those we see in our Defence Reservists. Honesty, dependability, courage and respect are a few that spring to mind. By working to these values they are highly valued employees,” Mr O’Neill said.
Senator Feeney also presented Employer Support Awards to several Australian Capital Territory and south-eastern New South Wales businesses. Canberra Hospital and Aspen Medical were recognised for their continuing support of Reservists.
“Employers who employ and support the development of their Reservist personnel facilitate an exchange of skills and knowledge between civilian and military workplaces. This benefits the employee, the employer our community and our nation,” he said.
