Tasmanian employers of Defence Reservists have been recognised at the 2013 Defence Employer Support Awards, held Friday night at Hobart’s Government House.
Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney, said the awards were an acknowledgment of the outstanding contribution employers of Reservists add to Defence capability.
“Supportive employers are an essential part of our Reserve capability. Without them, it would not be possible to have an effective Reserve force for our Navy, Army or Air Force,” Senator Feeney said.
Cradle Mountain Water was one of the proud winners on the night. Accepting the award was Chief Executive Officer Mr Andrew Kneebone.
“We employ a number of Reservists at Cradle Mountain Water and are always happy to release them if and when they are called for service. The training provided by Defence to our Reservist employees has given them leadership, problem solving and decision making skills that have transferred extremely well back into the workplace.”
Chair of the Defence Reserves Support Council –Tasmania, Steve Carey, said the winners had been nominated by their Reservist employees, making the awards even more meaningful.
