Employers stretch themselves with Defence in NT
Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney thanked some of Australia’s leading employers for participating in the upcoming Defence Exercise Executive Stretch in the Northern Territory.
Exercise Executive Stretch, coordinated by the Directorate of Defence Reserves Support, provides employers with a range of experiences that highlight the skills of Reservists.
It will encourage employers and managers to support their employees who are Reservists, or encourage them to employ Reservists in the future because of the skills they bring to the workplace.
Mayor of Alice Springs Damien Ryan will join managers from a range of organisations from the Northern Territory and South Australia for the activity from 24-26 March 2011.
Chief Executive of the NT Chamber of Commerce and current Deputy Chair of the Defence Reserves Support Council NT Committee Christopher Young will also participate.
Senator Feeney said Exercise Executive Stretch was an excellent opportunity for the ADF to demonstrate the benefits of Reserve service to employers and supervisors.
“Without exception, Australian employers are genuinely impressed at the nature and extent of the skills taught in the Reserve,” Senator Feeney said.
“Leadership, initiative and team work are core skills developed and used by Reserves and, of course, these skills are also valued in the the civilian workplace.
“Exercise Executive Stretch allows employers to see first hand how Reservists develop and use these skills,’ Senator Feeney said.
