The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney, today congratulated South Australian employers who have shown outstanding support for Australian Defence Force (ADF) Reserves.
Five businesses will be presented with Employer Support Awards from the South Australian Defence Reserves Support Council (DRSC) at an event at Adelaide Zoo this evening.
A further 35 South Australian businesses will also be recognised for signing a Statement of Employer Support.
Senator Feeney said that South Australian employers should be proud of their support.
“ADF Reserves make a substantial contribution to Defence capability. This is particularly important with the high tempo of operations in many theatres around the world,” Senator Feeney said.
“Employers who support their Reservist employees are not only helping a member of their team, they are supporting the nation.
“Reservists receive training and skills development that benefits both the ADF and their civilian employer.
Local business, Pure Coffin Bay Oysters, won the Small Business Award. This employer also won the South Australian Employer of the Year award.
Co-owner of Pure Coffin Bay Oysters, Linda Hanks, said she is very pleased that their employee, Navy Reservist Able Seaman Scott Nugent, nominated them for an award.
“We are very excited and proud to be recognised as the supportive employer of a Defence Reservist,” Ms Hanks said.
“Scott loves his role with the Navy. He enjoys his work with us and brings the skills he learns on Navy Reserve tours of duty back into our workplace.
“Overall it’s a win-win situation for Pure Coffin Bay Oysters and for Scott,” Ms Hanks said.
