This weekend 16 employers will join the Australian Defence Force Reserves at RAAF Base Williams (23rd - 25th March) at Laverton in Victoria for Exercise Executive Stretch.
The employers including representatives from local councils, ANZ, BAE Systems, TAFEs and other businesses will participate in a variety of military activities, including quick decision exercises, snorkeling with a Royal Australian Navy Dive Team and an introduction to firing a rifle on a fully supervised range.
Senator Feeney, the Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, thanked the employers for demonstrating their support for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and its Reserve personnel by participating in the Exercise.
“Exercise Executive Stretch gives employers a taste of their Reservist employee’s ADF activities. Importantly, it highlights the expertise their staff are building,” Senator Feeney said.
“Australian employers are genuinely impressed at the nature and extent of the skills developed in the Reserve and they understand that these skills are also valuable in the civilian workplace.
“Leadership, motivation and teamwork are core values developed and used by Reservists and, of course, these skills are also highly valued by any employer.
“Understanding the benefits of a shared workforce will enable employers to manage that workforce for the benefit of their organization, the employee and more broadly the Australian community,” the Senator said.
The exercise will be conducted by personnel from 21 Squadron, located at RAAF Base Williams, Laverton.
During the weekend, participants will also be briefed on Defence support programs which can assist in managing Reservist staff. The weekend gives employers an insight into the skills and abilities Reserve service develops, as well as an understanding of the commitment and challenges of being a Reservist.
