Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney, has welcomed the Government’s approval of a $19.6 million upgrade to the Liverpool Military Area’s high voltage electrical distribution system at Holsworthy, New South Wales.
The Liverpool Military Area is home to a number of regular and reserve Army units, including the 2nd Commando Regiment, Special Operations Engineer Regiment, 5th Brigade, and the School of Military Engineering.
Senator Feeney says the project will aim to address the shortfalls in electrical supply and distribution within the Liverpool Military Area.
“This project will upgrade and replace inadequate, out-dated and non-compliant electrical infrastructure. This will then lead to improved overall capability and functionality of the Liverpool Military Area,” Senator Feeney said.
During construction, the project is expected to employ approximately 20 workers.
Works under the project are scheduled to commence in early 2013 with completion is expected in mid-2014.
