Former Deputy Police Commissioner Professor Murray Lampard has today been appointed to lead Western Australia’s Defence Reserves Support Council (DRSC).
The Council provides advice to Government and Defence on matters relating to the Australian Defence Force Reserves.
Minister for Defence Stephen Smith welcomed Professor Lampard’s appointment.
“Professor Lampard brings years of experience to the role after almost 33 years with the Western Australia Police and now a Professor at Edith Cowan University. I am very pleased with his appointment,” Minister Smith said.
Professor Lampard was appointed by Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney.
Senator Feeney said Professor Lampard’s experience would provide a firm basis for his work with the DRSC.
“Professor Lampard’s experience will ensure strong leadership of the Council and the continued development of positive links between the community, employers and Reservists,” Senator Feeney said.
Professor Lampard said he was pleased with the appointment and looked forward to working closely with the Reserve community.
“Reservists enhance and boost Australia's commitment to overseas deployments and bring a wealth of skills and experience obtained from the workplace.
“As Chair, I will be clearly focused on advocating and convincing employers and business leaders of the important leadership and life skills our Reservists acquire in the service of our country,” Professor Lampard said.
Professor Lampard was appointed a Professor at Edith Cowan University in August 2008 following his retirement as the Deputy Police Commissioner with the Western Australia Police. He previously held the position of Adjunct Associate Professor (School of Law and Justice) at the University.
