Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price has today opened a virtual summit that will build on the Morrison Government’s commitment to establish a world-leading defence industry workforce.

The second Defence Industry Skilling and Workforce Summit, to be held online today and tomorrow, will focus on attracting young people to Australia’s growing defence industry.

It follows the highly successful inaugural Defence Industry Skilling and Workforce Summit held in Perth in November 2019.

Minister Price said the Morrison Government was determined to capitalise on the strong progress that had been made towards developing a highly-trained and specialised defence industry workforce to meet Defence capability needs.

“The summit will provide an opportunity for stakeholders from industry, government and education sectors to workshop and put forward ideas on how we can enhance young people’s participation in defence industry,” Minister Price said.

“To effectively address skilling and workforce challenges, it is crucial that we attract young people to this growing sector.

“Organisations that recognise the importance of investing in young people early in their career – filling a pipeline with talent – will be strongly positioned to prosper in the future.

“I especially encourage the younger industry participants to be a part of this vital conversation and register for the summit today.

“Building on the success of the inaugural summit, this virtual event will tackle the complex challenges and opportunities facing the next generation of defence industry workforce.”

Registration for the Defence Industry Skilling and Workforce Virtual Summit can be completed here.
