YOUNG Australians looking to take the next step in their lives through further study and building a career, are encouraged to participate in the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) virtual Open Day starting today.
Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said the virtual ADFA Open Day runs from 17–22 August with a number of online activities for young Australians to learn about the lifestyle, tertiary education and military training on offer at the Academy.
“While the traditional Open Day can’t happen this year due to COVID-19, the virtual program will still provide an excellent opportunity for those interested in a career with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to have all their questions answered,” Mr Chester said.
“In these uncertain times, the virtual Open Day provides more young Australians and their families the opportunity to learn about the military training and academic programs on offer without travelling to Canberra.”
Via ADFA’s Facebook and Instagram, people will be able to participate in virtual tours of the facilities, ask questions of current ADFA trainee officers through live Q&A sessions and see what a day in the life of a trainee officer looks like.
ADFA is the only university in Australia where students are paid to obtain a degree in the fields of Arts, Business, Science, Engineering or Technology. Students benefit from the best university teacher-to-student ratio in the country, with a guaranteed job upon the completion of their degree.
Commandant of ADFA, Commodore Peter Leavy CSM, said while COVID-19 meant the Open Day this year would be different, he was pleased that people would still have the opportunity to get insight into what it means to live, work and study at the Academy through social media.
“I encourage anyone considering ADFA as the start of their career in the ADF to get involved in the virtual Open Day activities on our social media channels,” Commodore Leavy said.
ADFA’s virtual Open Day will take place on ADFA’s Facebook page and Instagram (@adfacademy). Further information on ADFA: https://www.defence.gov.au/adfa/
