The Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Melissa Price MP, has congratulated defence industry companies in Townsville, Queensland, for the support they give to the community and the Australian Defence Force.

Minister Price today visited three companies in Townsville: Campbells Kitchen Cabinets, CAE Australia and Cubic Defence Australia.

“It was great to see first-hand the work these companies were doing for the defence industry,” Minister Price said.

“From a small family-owned business to Australian arms of global companies, Townsville and our Australian Defence Force are benefitting from their work.”

Minister Price was especially impressed by Indigenous-owned company Campbells Kitchen Cabinets.

“As it is NAIDOC Week, it is important to celebrate how Indigenous businesses are contributing to the sector,” she said.

“Here, we have an independent family-owned company doing important work in the Explosive Ordnance Logistics Reform Program.”

Minister Price also joined local leaders from companies that included AON, Cubic Defence Australia, Nemesis Defence Solutions, Rheinmetall, and Thales at a business leaders’ lunch.

“I wanted to reiterate to Townsville’s defence industry businesses the importance of Australian Government’s historic $200 billion investment in the sector,” Minister Price said.

“My message to them was simple: Deliver your projects on time, on budget, using Australian jobs, materials and know how.”

Townsville City Council’s Mayor, Councillor Jenny Hill, and its Defence Sector Strategy Adviser, Lieutenant General John Caligari (retd) AO, DSC, also gave Minister Price an update on opportunities for the city’s defence industry.

The Member for Herbert, Phillip Thompson OAM, and the Member for Dawson, George Christensen, joined Minister Price during her visit.

“The defence industry, like the ADF, is part of Townsville,” Mr Thompson said.

“The defence industry supports our men and women in uniform. So, when they deploy, they’re putting to use the capabilities the industry has given them.

“Our ADF deserves only the best capabilities and I know Townsville is doing its part to deliver them.”

The Member for Dawson, George Christensen, said the defence industry was a key contributor to a strong and diverse Townsville economy.

“The businesses who support our defence industry provide vital jobs for the Townsville region and I am a strong advocate for contracts going to those who are Townsville owned or operated,” Mr Christensen said.
