Australian defence industry innovation potential was in focus today as Kord Defence, a Canberra-based defence company, today announced it has signed a contract worth almost half a million Australian dollars with the US Marine Corps for the testing and evaluation of a Wireless Control System.
Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, congratulated Kord Defence, noting that this demonstrates the incredible potential of Australian defence industry to support the capability of our allies.
“In 2016 Kord Defence developed a wireless control system for use by the Australian Defence Force and in 2017, through investment from the Turnbull Government’s Defence Innovation Hub, were able to further develop this technology for the Australian Army,” Minister Pyne said.
“Kord Defence is now able to export a similar technology to the US Marine Corps. This is a great example of Australian innovation taking advantage of support from this government, to provide world leading technology to support both Australian and allied soldiers.
“With the support of government initiatives such as the Defence Innovation Hub, Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC), and the Australian Defence Export Office, small to medium enterprises are now accessing the United States and other key markets to generate new business opportunities, drive exports, and grow employment.”
The contract will extend the current testing and evaluation of Kord Defence’s Rifle Input Control Technology to a wireless control system for use on the US Marine Corps’ new rifle.
Kord Defence produces world-leading, push-button technology so soldiers can operate all their electronic devices without taking their eyes off their target or hands off their weapon.
