Thomas Global Systems and Safran Group signed a new agreement today in Sydney to formally commence their partnership which will facilitate industry knowledge sharing and create advanced manufacturing jobs in Western Sydney.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, was present at the agreement signing and said the establishment of a manufacturing facility by Thomas Global for the international Safran Group products marked the first time the innovative PASEO sighting system will be made outside of France.

“I congratulate Thomas Global Systems for the commencement of this partnership with Safran Group which establishes another platform for Australian industry to compete for local and export contracts.

“Thomas Global has benefited from the important work of the Centre for Defence Industry Capability, including assistance through the Global Supply Chain Program as well as participating in Team Defence Australia events, demonstrating the significance of the government’s programs to help small- and medium-sized Defence businesses.”

“The Australian Government’s Export Strategy creates opportunity our Defence industry to grow and create local jobs as part of global supply chains,” Minister Pyne said.

Used by the French Army for their new armoured vehicles, the PASEO is a long-range sighting system enabling day and night, real-time omni-directional optronic acquisition.

Thomas Global Systems, based in Regents Park in Western Sydney, supports key Australian defence programs, including for the Collins Submarine, Hawkei armoured vehicle and produces a variety of advanced avionic display products used in a wide range of commercial and military aircraft cockpits.

Headquartered in France, Safran Group employs more than 58,600 people across Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific, North America and South America.
