The Department of Defence will sell the former married quarter precinct known as ‘Inverbrackie’, next to Woodside Barracks in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Darren Chester, said Defence had assessed the future use of Inverbrackie and determined that it was no longer required for Defence purposes.

“I have met with the Federal Member for Mayo, Jamie Briggs, and he is supportive of the decision to sell the property,” Mr Chester said.

Until recently, Inverbrackie had been used as a detention centre by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

Defence intends to sell the property on the open market, with advertising to occur once pre sale due diligence activities are complete. These activities are likely to be completed by the middle of 2015.

“Once Defence has completed its due diligence, we will be pleased to make Inverbrackie available for purchase,” Mr Chester said.

“We are achieving government estate consolidation objectives and, at the same time, releasing a useful parcel of land for purchase by the public.”

Defence will keep the public informed by posting information on a project website, www.defence.gov.au/id/PropertyDisposals, which will be online in coming days.
