Mr Marshall Baillieu has been reappointed as Chair of the Young Endeavour Advisory Board, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Darren Chester MP, announced today.
“I am very pleased to advise that Mr Baillieu has been appointed Chair of the Young Endeavour Advisory Board for a further three year term,” Mr Chester said.
“Since his initial appointment as Chair of the Advisory Board in 2011, Mr Baillieu has initiated a number of campaigns to promote the youth development scheme and engage Australian communities through STS Young Endeavour, including the 2015 Young Endeavour World Voyage.
“Mr Baillieu’s reappointment will ensure the Young Endeavour Youth Program continues to be internationally recognised for developing teamwork, leadership, communication, resilience and a sense of community responsibility amongst hundreds of young Australians each year.”
The World Voyage will see STS Young Endeavour set sail from Sydney on 22 December 2014 on a 12 month world voyage and will provide a unique opportunity for more than 200 young people to represent Australia at events such as the annual international Tall Ship Races in the North Sea and the 360th anniversary of the Royal Netherlands Naval Barracks Amsterdam. STS Young Endeavour will also be stationed off the Gallipoli Peninsula during the Dawn Service on Anzac Day 2015.
The Young Endeavour Advisory Board was established in 1988 by the Minister for Defence to provide advice and support to the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme. Advisory Board members are appointed by the relevant Minister for a period of three years and are responsible through the Chair to the Minister for Defence. The Advisory Board also includes Navy’s Fleet Commander Australia and a Department of Defence senior executive as ex-officio members.
