Australian Defence Force personnel will go ‘on operations’ in Parliament House this week as part of the ADF Parliamentary Program (ADFPP) Exchange.
Seventeen personnel from all three services and varying ranks will have the opportunity to experience the daily process of decision-making faced by Senators and Members.
Participants include a Petty Officer trained as an Aviation Technician Aircraft, an Army Lieutenant Colonel, an Australian Defence Force Academy and Royal Military College graduate who has served in Afghanistan and Iraq, and an Air Force Squadron Leader who is an Aeronautical Engineer with experience in maintaining F/A 18 Classic Hornets.
The military's task will be to gain a greater understanding of the mechanics of all levels of government during their week-long 'operation'.
"This program allows ADF personnel to gain a valuable insight into both parliamentary and committee processes," Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Darren Chester said.
"Parliamentarians and ADF members live and work in very different environments and this is a valuable opportunity to gain an appreciation and understanding of these differences.
"This year 41 Senators and Members have already participated in the ADFPP where they were attached for periods of five to 10 days working alongside the men and women of the ADF at diverse operations or units both in Australia and overseas," Mr Chester said.
