Assistant Minister for Defence visits Army’s Land Warfare Centre and Defence Intelligence Training Centre

The Assistant Minister for Defence, Mr Stuart Robert MP, today visited the Australian Army’s Land Warfare Centre and Defence Intelligence Training Centre at Kokoda Barracks, Canungra, Queensland.

Mr Robert commenced his visit with an overview of the Land Warfare Centre and base facilities, followed by a morning tea with approximately 50 Defence members currently undertaking training at the Land Warfare Centre.

“The Land Warfare Centre is one of Army’s largest training establishments. With detachments all across the country, the centre trains Army personnel at all ranks, from Private through to Brigadier,” Mr Robert said.

“Three thousand Army personnel attend training at the Land Warfare Centre each year and today’s visit was an excellent opportunity to see first-hand the quality training being delivered.

“The new facilities at Kokoda Barracks, combined with the clever use of simulation technologies, support and enhance Army's foundation war fighting capability.”

While at Canungra, Mr Robert also visited the Defence Intelligence Training Centre, which provides training to all members of the Australian Army’s Intelligence Corps, as well as to members of the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force and civilian employees of the Department of Defence.

“It has been a pleasure to host Mr Robert at Kokoda Barracks, as I know he is very interested in the training our people undertake and shares the view that our people are our most important assets,” Colonel Patrick Evans, Commander Land Warfare Centre said.

“Today’s visit has been an opportunity to display the quality training conducted at Kokoda Barracks and its contribution to developing highly-trained and professional officers, soldiers, sailors and airmen and women within the Australian Defence Force.”

Mr Robert’s visit to Kokoda Barracks is his first as the Assistant Minister for Defence.
