The Hon. Warren Snowdon MP meets with cast of Sea Patrol
The Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon. Warren Snowdon MP, visited the Armidale Class Patrol Boat (ACPB), HMAS LAUNCESTON, near Mission Beach.
Mr Snowdon discussed various issues with the crew of HMAS LAUNCESTON, including retention within Navy and the critical shortage of skilled technical tradespeople.
Armidale Class Patrol Boats are highly capable and versatile warships, with HMAS LAUNCESTON and its 13 sister ACPBs being Navy’s principal contribution to the nation’s fisheries protection, immigration, customs and drug law enforcement operations.
HMAS LAUNCESTON is the platform being utilised for the current filming of the third series of Sea Patrol.
HMAS LAUNCESTON is based in Cairns and has a range of 3000 nautical miles and a maximum speed of 25 knots. It is fitted with a satellite navigation system that enables the ship’s position to be determined with great accuracy.
