NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week celebrates Indigenous culture and the contribution Indigenous people have made to Australia.

The NAIDOC Week memorial service honours Indigenous men and women who have played an active role in protecting Australia. The service includes a traditional smoking and welcome ceremony offered by the Ngunnawal people.

The theme for NAIDOC week in 2008 is ‘Advance Australia Fair’. The theme encourages Australians to reflect on the Australian principle of a “Fair go” and to consider the inequalities still experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.
