Afghanistan Security the focus of Australia-Dutch Ministerial talks
The Minister for Defence, the Hon Joel Fitzgibbon, met with his Dutch counterpart, the Hon Eimert van Middelkoop, at Parliament House, Canberra today to discuss a range of issues surrounding the strategic and practical aspects of continued Australia-Dutch cooperation in Afghanistan.
The Chief of the Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, and the Secretary of Defence, Mr Nick Warner were also present at the talks.
The discussions provided both countries an opportunity to reflect on a broader, more integrated approach to security and development in Afghanistan, particularly in the lead up to next month’s NATO summit in Bucharest.
The Australia-Dutch partnership is a strong one based on a deep commitment to working with ISAF and the Government of Afghanistan to improve governance and security to provide better living conditions for all Afghans.
