The Hon. Warren Snowdon MP,
Minister for Defence Science and Personnel
The
Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon. Warren Snowdon MP, has
announced the start of this year’s AFL Army Award competition.
The award, which is now in its third year, aims to highlight the Army’s
core values of Courage, Initiative and Teamwork through AFL match play.
“This is a
great program for both the players and for AFL fans, who both have an
opportunity to win a fantastic Army experience," Mr Snowdon said.
“The award
recognises and rewards game breaking smothers, tackles and acts of bravery that
best represent the Army values of Courage, Initiative and Teamwork, and has
seen some very worthy winners already.”
Inspirational
players like Luke Hodge from Hawthorn, Joel MacDonald from Brisbane and Eric
MacKenzie of West Coast have all been nominated so far this season.
Following
each round, the three most influential acts will be posted to AFL.com.au, where
fans can log on and vote to determine the best act for the round.
Fans can
also logon to a mobile phone (WAP) site were they can view the plays of the
week and even share them with a friend at http://msmob.mobi/armyawards.
“I encourage
you to log on, take part, and reward your favourite players for their courage,
initiative and teamwork,” said Mr Snowdon.
“Alwyn
Davey took the inaugural prize, while last year Brett Delidio was awarded the
honour at the All Australian Awards.”
The winning
act / player of the AFL Army Award will receive an Army Experience and trophy
and by voting a lucky member of the public will also be able to have a similar
experience for themselves and a friend.
