DEFENCE HOUSING AUSTRALIA BOARD APPOINTMENTS

The Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP, today announced Mr Derek Volker AO as the new Chairman of the Defence Housing Australia (DHA) Board. 

“DHA plays a vital role in the retention, flexibility and operational capability of the Australia Defence Force, and as it celebrates its 20^th birthday, I am pleased to announce Mr Volker as the Chairman for a three-year term,” said Mr Snowdon.

Mr Volker has extensive Australian Public Service (APS) experience, including his work as Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Since leaving the APS, Mr Volker has undertaken a number of board-based management roles and for several years has been an adviser for a multinational building and civil engineering firm. 

“Mr Volker brings public administration, corporate and whole-of-government experience to the position of Chairman, and I believe his skills and expertise will be of great benefit to DHA in its future development,” said Mr Snowdon.

In addition Mr Sandy Macdonald has been appointed as a Board director.

Mr Macdonald offers DHA considerable management skills and an understanding of Defence personnel issues gained during his time as a Commonwealth parliamentarian, including the period spent as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence.

“I believe that Mr Macdonald’s knowledge and experience will assist DHA in meeting its legislative obligation to provide suitable housing to Australian Defence Force members and their families.

These appointments replace existing Board members whose terms have expired.
