$331 MILLION FOR RAAF BASE AMBERLEY
I am pleased to
announce that the Government has committed $331.5 million for the third stage
of redevelopment for RAAF Base Amberley,
The
redevelopment will include fuel farm works, training accommodation, medical and
dental facilities, trainee living-in accommodation, combined messing facilities
and office accommodation.
RAAF Base
Amberley is the largest operational Air Force Base in
This
redevelopment will sustain Amberley’s growing base population, including the
newly arrived No 36 Squadron to operate the new C-17 Globemaster III aircraft,
the planned relocation of 9th Force Support Battalion in late 2007
and the introduction of the Multi-Role Tanker Transport (No. 33 Squadron) in
2009.
The Government
recently announced the acquisition of 24 FA-18/F Super Hornets which will also
be based at Amberley.
This significant
capital investment will have major economic benefits for the
Subject to
Parliamentary clearance of the project, construction is expected to begin in
early 2008 with completion expected in late 2011.
The Base
currently provides operational and maintenance support for the Precision Strike
and Light Tactical Aircraft of the Air Combat and Air Lift Groups, and support
elements of the Strategic Lift capability with the introduction of the Multi
Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) and C-17 Heavy Lift Aircraft.
RAAF Base
Amberley also provides support for other RAAF units including the Headquarters
of Combat Support Group and the RAAF Security and
