ADF CADETS GET ICT UPDATE BEFORE
2010
The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support, the Hon. Dr Mike Kelly
AM MP, has commended the Department of Defence for their ongoing commitment to
providing upgraded equipment to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Cadets,
through the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Refresh Program.
Last financial year, a project commenced to upgrade Cadet units with new
equipment. This includes broadband internet access, new desktop computers and
replacement printers.
Additional capability includes provision of laptops and data projectors
for units without an audio/visual and mobile capability, enabling DVD and other
training materials, as well as internet access, to be available in classrooms
at all Cadet units.
It is expected that the rollout will be completed by the end of this
year.
“The ICT Refresh Program for ADF Cadets is an important initiative that
will see Cadet units being provided ICT equipment which will assist them in the
day-to-day administration and running of their units,” Dr Kelly said.
“Over the Financial Year 08/09 and 09/10 periods approximately $1.5
million will have been spent on the program, providing a real, practical
enhancement to around 500 Cadet Units.”
“I am pleased with the progress
Defence is making with the ICT Refresh Program.”
The ADF Cadets is a community-based youth development organisation for
young people between the ages of 12 and 18.
The scheme provides the opportunity to learn team work, leadership and
other skills valued in the ADF.
