MAIL BOOST FOR OPERATION SUMATRA ASSIST

The Minister Assisting the Defence Minister, De-Anne Kelly, today announced an increase in the weight of free postage available to Defence members serving on Operation Sumatra Assist.

Free post was initially limited to 500 grams, based on advice from Defence. This was to ensure maximum capacity was devoted to Australia’s humanitarian efforts to the tsunami-damaged region.

With the change in tempo of the relief, it is now possible to introduce a 2kg free post service.

"We hope that the ability to receive some small luxuries from home will make the difficult time members of Defence are experiencing a little easier to bear," Mrs Kelly said.

She praised the role of Defence personnel who have served on Operation Sumatra Assist since December 27.

"All personnel are making a significant difference to the devastated region as they create benefits that will long be remembered," she said.
