ENOGGERA REDEVELOPMENT STAGE ONE GIVEN ‘GO AHEAD’

The Minister for Defence, the Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP, and the Federal Member for Brisbane, the Hon Arch Bevis MP, announced today that a major redevelopment of Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera will start this year.

“The facilities will be purpose-built and will include a combined mess and new offices for the Headquarters of Army’s 7th Brigade,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

“The project will also upgrade existing engineering services and demolish unnecessary facilities on Base.

“The project means the Department of Defence will save taxpayer funds by reducing the number of kitchen facilities.

“The combined mess will support the new accommodation buildings.

“I am delighted that the troops at Enoggera are going to have some of the best facilities in the Army,” Mr Bevis said.

“The construction also provides a major boost to the local economy.”

The Parliamentary Joint Standing Committee on Public works has recommended the $80.2 million proposal proceed and this recommendation has been approved by Parliament.

Construction is planned to commence in late 2008 and be completed by 2011.
