The Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Warren Snowdon, today announced that Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has acquired a new residential land site worth approximately $35 million at Warner Springs in Brisbane and entered into an agreement with Peet Limited to develop the site.
“This is a major opportunity to develop a site which is expected to yield approximately 465 residential lots, and two medium density super lots, of which DHA intends to retain around 30 percent making the remainder available to the general public,” Mr Snowdon said.
“The development and project management agreement that DHA has entered into with Peet Limited is another positive example of how DHA is working with other industry leaders in the residential construction field.”
The site is located approximately 20 kilometres northwest of the Brisbane CBD and 17 kilometres from Enoggera Army Base.
Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer Wayne Swan said Brisbane has a proud defence history, with Enoggera being important to the ADF for over 100 years.
“As someone with many defence force personnel living in my electorate, I know how important it is for families to have quality housing nearby,” Mr Swan said.
“The purchase of this new land is great news for the local defence community and their families, and it is great news for the local economy and jobs.”
Mr Snowdon said the location of this estate is ideal for Defence members working at Enoggera, making their daily commute quick and easy.
“The acquisition of this site is critical for DHA to help in housing the increasing numbers of Defence personnel posted to the region and to reduce the dependence on the private rental market,” he said.
Defence Housing Australia’s primary function is to supply housing and related services to Australian Defence Force members and their families in line with Defence operational requirements. DHA currently manages 18,000 properties across Australia worth about $9.6 billion.
