Quickstep

Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today provided the following information in response to comments made by WA Minister for Commerce Simon O’Brien concerning Federal Government support for Quickstep.

On 19 July, 2010 the Federal Government agreed to establish a finance facility to help Quickstep bid for contracts in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) project.

The finance facility will be established by the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation.

This Commonwealth support does not require Quickstep to move from Western Australia and did not lure them to NSW.

Quickstep made the decision to move to NSW after negotiations with the Western Australian and NSW Governments.

The CEO of Quickstep, Mr Phillipe Odouard explained why they made the decision to move from WA to NSW last week:

“It’s a combination of skills, facilities, environment – in terms of services – and the NSW Government as well. The fact that NSW was very positive and very supportive … certainly helped.

“The problem with WA … is that the focus really of the State is not aerospace.”
