Albury company helping to protect Australian soldiers and sailors

The Hon. Jason Clare MP
Minister for Defence Materiel

An Albury company has cornered the market for supplying essential parts for one of the most successful Electronic Warfare projects ever undertaken in Australia.

Milspec Manufacturing is the only company in the world certified to build and maintain the canisters for the Nulka anti-ship missile decoy.

Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today inspected the work being done by Milspec Manufacturing on the Nulka anti-ship missile decoy, as well as the work being done on parts for the Bushmaster vehicle which is saving lives in Afghanistan.

“Milspec Manufacturing is taking Australian innovation to the world,” Mr Clare said.

“The missile decoy is used by the Royal Australian Navy, the United States Navy and the Canadian Navy.

“There are almost 140 ships protected by the Nulka anti-ship missile decoy, with plans to increase that number to over 180 ships over the next few years.”

Mr Clare said that the Bushmaster was doing an important job protecting Australian troops inAfghanistan.

“Milspec Manufacturing provides the alternators and Power Distribution Units which provide power for the fleet of Bushmasters, which are saving the lives of our soldiers in Afghanistan,” Mr Clare said.

“When our troops in Afghanistan jump in the Bushmaster, they need to be sure the engine will start the first time.

“That’s why the vehicle needs top quality, reliable parts and the alternators made here are a great example of that.”

Milspec Manufacturing employs 57 workers at its Albury factory and Mr Clare thanked them for their work.

“The work being done here is making a big difference to protecting our soldiers and sailors,” Mr Clare said.

“Albury can be proud of the contribution workers at Milspec Manufacturing are making to our Defence Force.”

Manager, Business Development, Sales and Marketing, Tim Stewart said Milspec was also doing other work for the Australian Defence Force.

“Milspec Manufacturing also manufacturers many other products for the Australian Defence Force, including a field power distribution unit, cabling and Live Fire Target Systems. We also export some products for Military use to SE Asia, USA and Europe,” Mr Stewart said.

“We are a very diverse company offering a total solution for our customers. We also recently attained our AS 9100 Accreditation, which has broadened our opportunities to include aerospace/aeronautical work.”
