Australia Welcomes Peacekeepers Decision

Australia welcomes this evening's announcement by President Habibe that a UN peacekeeping force will be invited into East Timor.

It is good news for East Timor and for Indonesia.

Australia stands ready to assist the United Nations in any way that we are asked.
